How to Inward Heelflip

A photot of a man doing an inward heelflip on a skateboard. The flip is in mit rotation.

What's an inward heelflip :

An Inward Heelflip is produced by combining a backside pop shuvit and a heelflip. This flip trick is one of my personal favorites. It has a nice earthy flip for a flip trick with only a 180 degree spin.

This trick will trully set you apart. I would catagorize this trick as advanced. From the inward heelflips foot placement to the brisk and half-moon like motion this trick will be sure to find a special place in your skate heart.

If you have tried this over and over and you just can't land this skateboard trick. Firstly, remember to pop straight down on your tail with the correct foot placement. This is absolutly crucial to landing and inward heelflip. If you still aren't quite getting the flip right. Try a fakie inward heelflip. There are certain tricks that are actually easier to flip fakie or nollie for some skaters.

Foot placement for an inward heelflip

Alright let's get into the standard foot placement here and we will move from there.

Position the outside of your kick foot at about the center of your skateboard and hang your toes off the edge of the board.

Here is the part is didn't figure out for years.

Your pop foot should be on the inside concave of the tail on the skateboard.

Inward heeflip trick tip steps

Step 1

Bend straight down keeping your shoulders inline with your skateboard.

Step 2

When you pop this trick remember that our foot placement is the most critical part. Just because your foot is poping the concave part of the tail doesn't mean that you need to scoop or add any shuvit spin to the trick.

You want to pop straight down on the concave and it will cause the board to do spin backside shuvit style. More up and under rather than up and over.

Step 3

The inward heelflip is a high knee trick you are going to want to suck those knees up and let the board flip right under your body.

Remember to watch the flip and let it float. Don't try and stomp the board back down to catch the flip.

Step 4

Then just let gravity bring you back to the board and catch your inward heel!

Remember to absorb the impact by bending your knees as your land. Don't stiffen your legs out.

How to inward heeflip recap:

  • Get your footing.
  • Square up with the board.
  • Bend straight down.
  • Shoot your self straight back up.
  • Pop straight down don't add any scoop to it. Heelflip flick quickly.
  • Stay loose and allow your skateboard to rotate and catch it.
  • Bolts and Roll away.
